There is exciting news in the CLR Law offices for our previous trainee, Anna Lovett. This week marks her first week as a qualified solicitor! We are delighted to welcome her on board as a full time assistant solicitor.
During her training contract Anna gained invaluable experience at CLR Law, working on all aspects of employment law, ranging from drafting contracts and policies to assisting on tribunal cases including unfair dismissal and discrimination. In addition to her time at CLR Law, Anna was also seconded to other organisations to complete her “seats”.
Anna spent three months working at Gateshead Council within the in-house commercial legal team. She gained experience drafting a range of commercial contracts and advising clients on the procurement process. Anna’s time at Gateshead Council also gave her an opportunity of working within a democratic environment, including attending committee, cabinet and full council meetings; an opportunity not available to most trainees in private practice.
Anna also opted to spend part of her training contract with Newcastle Law Centre, a legal advice charity assisting the most vulnerable people in the region. Anna worked closely with the charity’s senior solicitor specialising in immigration and asylum law. Speaking about her time at the law centre, Anna said, “As a trainee I was honoured to be able to assist the law centre during my training contract. The work carried out by the law centre is vital for people to access justice, particularly when legal aid is ever increasingly unavailable”.
Claire Rolston, solicitor and director at CLR Law said, “It is a pleasure to welcome Anna on board as a qualified solicitor. I have seen her grow and develop her skills during her training over the past two years and she is a great asset to our team. The time she spent on secondment has been invaluable to both her work here as an employment lawyer and to develop her own personal skills”.
We will continue to support Newcastle Law Centre and the fantastic work they do. We will be hosting the Great Legal Bake on Thursday 4th February, with half of the proceedings going to Newcastle Law Centre and half to the North East Legal Support Trust. Anna and Claire are also running the Great North Run this year and will raise sponsorship for the Newcastle Law Centre.
